ExTS Reviewer

I have lived in Exeter for 27 years and regularly attend shows and performances in the city. Over the last 3 years I have been fortunate enough to volunteer as an usher at the Northcott Theatre. I am keen to help promote theatre and the arts in Exeter and to encourage others to attend and support the performers and the venues who provide entertainment and escape in so many forms.

I have worked in the arts industry for over 25 years. Having lived in London and Bristol I have finally returned to Devon and enjoy learning how the arts scene has developed and is thriving. My background is in dance, and I am currently a Trustee for Exeter Phoenix and Non-Executive Director for a CIC Fotonow in Plymouth. I am finding my work is steering me closer and closer to academia, (I am a lecturer/Tutor in Arts Management and Business, Bath Spa University) and I am keen to not loose my ties with grassroots organisations. I have appreciation of amateur and professional performances and provide the understanding of how both are crucial to our community's appreciation of the arts.

I have worked as a Drama teacher for over 30 years and both my parents were actors. I grew up in London and got my first teaching job there. I then moved with my family to Cornwall and then later to Devon. I love teaching Drama and have directed numerous shows for young people, both devised and scripted. My degree was in English Literature with quite a bit of Shakespeare, as well as modern theatre.  I go up to the Edinburgh Fringe as often as I can and get something out of every show – even the disasters!  I want to encourage as many people as possible to go to the theatre – no two performances are the same and there is something about watching performances live that connects people and can help us all see another perspective.

I discovered my love for Exeter’s theatre community through an internship at Maketank and now volunteer at the Phoenix alongside running ExTS. I’ve loved theatre, especially musicals, all my life and I enjoy going to the theatre as often as my bank account allows. It's a joy working with people who are equally as passionate about theatre in Exeter.
